“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says“(Mark 11:23).
Today is Day 3 of 12 Days!
We want to look at the power of meditating on and speaking the word of God. As important as it is to read the word of God, we are clearly enjoined in Scripture to exercise faith [believe in our heart] and speak the word of God out loud!
Our life prior to being a Christian was characterized by what the Scripture calls “futile thinking” and “spiritual ignorance.” We are exhorted to change our thinking now that we are Christians. “So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. ” (Ephesians 4:17 – 18).
In order to overcome futile thinking and ignorance we must renew our mind with the word of God. Meditating on the word of God is a very potent way of doing this! The Psalmist declared, “My eyes are awake through the night watches That I may meditate on Your word” (Psalm 119:148).

Meditate means “to ponder, regurgitate, think aloud, consider continuously and utter something over and over again. “As you read the word of God, begin to reflect on what it is really saying to you and then verbalize, “I believe this is true.” You are now meditating on the word of God.

Speaking the Word of God out aloud helps us focus our minds on God. Although God speaks to our spirits we still need to understand His word in our minds. To understand the Word with our minds we need to focus on the word. Speaking helps us to focus. The Psalmist knew this secret and used it.

Speaking God’s word to yourself is a most effective way of harnessing and subjugating wandering thoughts. Spend some time each day reading the Word of God out aloud to yourself. You will be surprised at how it helps you physically (to concentrate) and spiritually (in being more alert to the Holy Spirit’s prompting).
Some of the benefits you will realize as you meditate on God’s Word by reading it out aloud are.

  • It stirs up our flesh to praise God.
  • It increases our faith as we speak out the Word.
  • It disciplines our minds and shuts out the attacks of Satan.
  • The life of God coming out of our mouths affects the spiritual atmosphere around us.
  • It aids our meditation on God’s Word.
  • It makes us more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER FOR POWER
Lord God, I thank you that your word has power and that as I meditate on it and speak it out aloud I see things change. I choose to exercise the power of the spoken word of God in faith over my life and circumstances! Amen.
