Total Transformation – Day 10 in the 12
We continue our study on identifying and pulling up bitter roots that are present in our lives. Today we will examine how to uproot the crippling power of fear in our lives and exchange it for the fear of the Lord which brings freedom.

Jesus stated this regarding the fear of man and the fear of God:
“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.  5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him! 6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? and not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows (Luke 12:4-6).
In the aforementioned  passage of Scripture Jesus tells us what we should and should not fear. He is clear that we should not fear what men can say or do to hurt us (v. 4). The fear of man can be very destructive as it “…brings a snare…” (Proverbs 29:25). Jesus also exhorts us to never fear being forgotten or abandoned by God so as to think He will not take care of our needs (v. 6, 7). Christ then takes an unexpected turn and COMMANDS us to ensure that we do fear God! “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!” (v.5).

PAYING HOMAGE TO THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

“Jesus is giving us a profound revelation! He is stating that the antidote for fear is fear! In reality, He is saying if we fear God the way we should, we will never have to be afraid of men or of lack in this life! Here is a weighty truth: Fearing man will always keep us from fearing God and fearing God will keep us from the fear of men! To fear anyone or anything in life to the degree that it controls and violates our decision to do God’s will is idolatry.
Here the following words of Jesus.

  • “No wonder you can’t  believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God” (John 5:44 New Living Translation).
  • “No wonder you can’t  believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God” (John 5:44 New Living Translation).
  • “And yet [in spite of all this] many even of the leading men (the authorities and the nobles) believed and trusted in Him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that [if they should acknowledge Him] they would be expelled f om the synagogue; 43For they loved the approval and the praise and the glory that come from men [instead of and] more than the glory that comes from God. [They valued their credit with men more than their credit with God.] (John 12:42-43 Amplified Bible).

FEAR REQUIRES OUR UNDIVIDED DEVOTION AND SOLE ATTENTION! Because fear demands a response and even a commitment from us, it is in a sense a form of worship. In the Old Testament, the word for worship is fear (See 2 Kings 17:33 – 35). Worship means “worthy of our time, recognition and honor.” If we allow the fear of anyone or anything to govern our lives, it is the worship of the creature rather than the Creator!
Fear must be overcome! We overcome worldly fear by fearing, reverencing, honoring and ultimately respecting God above all else!
DAY 10 CHALLENGE: Read Luke 12:4-32. Is fear of anyone or anything oppressing you? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to set you free and to begin to teach you how to walk in the healthy fear of the Lord.
