I. Introduction: The Restoration Is Not the Destination

Contemporary ecclesiological discourse has increasingly emphasized the "restoration" of the fivefold ministry to the Church—specifically, the recognition and reestablishment of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. While this restorative movement represents a significant dimension of ecclesial reformation, to conceptualize the re-emergence of these charismata as the ultimate objective constitutes a fundamental misinterpretation of Paul's theological argument in Ephesians 4. The authentic τέλος (Greek: τέλος, denoting purpose, end, or ultimate goal) of the fivefold ministry is not merely the recovery of ministerial offices, but rather the cultivation of a mature ecclesial Body—the corporate manifestation of Christ within the temporal sphere.

According to Ephesians 4:13–16, the eschatological vision of the fivefold ministry encompasses nothing less than the complete embodiment of Christ within His people:
