Life in the Slums During Covid-19

“Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door” (Ezekiel 16:49, New Living Translation).

Did you know that over 4 Million live in the slums in Metro Manila? These are the poorest of the poor, the dispossessed and powerless, squatters packed into temporary tenements such as shanty shacks suspended under bridges or built on top of toxic waste dumps.

In the slums of Manila, it is impossible to practice social distancing and self-isolation. Sanitation is considered a privilege that the people of Manila’s slums simply can’t afford. Virus infection is easily spread because of the narrow passages between homes – a space just enough for one person to pass through. Locals cannot help but male physical contact with one another as they move about.

Right now, many of these precious people are in dire need of food as a result of the consequences of the coronavirus lockdown.

Jonathan, one of our pastors, is distributing rice to those in the slums (See photos below). I really want to help him.

Would you consider a love gift of any amount to help purchase bags of rice to distribute to these people? Give using the online donation link below. Please earmark your donation, “rice project.”
