The Problem with Good Ideas

People can be initiators of “good ideas” or recipients of “God-ideas.” What we inaugurate we become owners of and therefore end up being responsible to undergird and support. On the other hand, when we run with a God-idea we are no longer owners of the vision, but stewards. Consequently, the onus to furnish the necessary resources and ensure the success of the vision does not rest upon us, but upon the Lord.

As stewards in the Kingdom, God expects us to responsibly and effectively implement His plans and policies on the earth. In order to do so, we have been granted full access to the treasury of heaven where all the resources of riches in glory are stored. We not only have enough, but now possess an abundance for every good work. Because we are stewarding the Father’s vision, we will never lack His provision. As someone has said: “Stop asking God to bless what you’re doing and find out what God’s doing for it’s already blessed.”

Good ideas that are not God-ideas have no return on investment. Remember: Good – God = O. God-ideas, on the other hand, always reap significant spiritual dividends without extracting painful toil. “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth without painful toil for it” (Proverbs 10:22, New International Version).

We are required to sow and plant, but only the Father can truly bring increase. This is, in fact, a principle of how the Kingdom works as taught by Jesus. “…The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own…“(Mark 4:26-28, New Living Translation).

The phrase “on its own” in the previous verses is the single Greek word automatos from which our English word “automatic” is derived. It literally means “acting without the instigation or intervention of another. Those that are doing the will of the Father, will enter a place of rest where they cease striving and begin to discover supernatural power and provision flowing from the Father to and through them for executing His vision. God begins to work with them and ministry is not tedious and full of toil. “…the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen” (Mark 16:20).

Remember: “God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done” (2 Corinthians 9:8, The Message).

Amen!
